why is food supply geography?
"A trip to the market, a store, a fast-food restaurant, the movies or a local trader may be a taken-for-granted aspect of everyday life for many, but these actions play a critical role in the meaningful creation and expression of place." (Mansvelt, 2005)
food for thought?
Food is a basic human need, and right. The production, acquisition and consumption of food occupies everyone to some extent, and connects everyone with the environment, the water cycle, interdependence, global trade and aid, and the changing nature and location of industry.
how might these be linked?
As the world's population continues its remorseless growth beyond seven billion, global climate is predicted to change, and water supplies become more unreliable. As our demands on the world's resources grow, we face a 'perfect storm' of factors, which threatens to plunge further millions of people into hunger. Food security is an issue which is likely to impact more countries in the future.
